Dr.Gupta:
Studies show approximately four in five people say they experience stress at work or study. Half say stress negatively results in headaches, fatigues and problems sleeping. Clearly, stress is a problem. What is your way to deal with stress and why?
Claire:
I feel stressful whenever I have to turn in a report but it is nearly blank in my mind. Stress primarily comes from not taking action over something that one can have some control over. Therefore, taking actions plays a pivotal role in dealing with stress. I find that as soon as I can identify it and make the first line, or figure out the first draft, it dramatically reduces the stress I feel.

Paul:
I understand Claire's saying. In today's society, it seems that everyone is undera lot of pressure, and the specific pressure comes form various aspects. You may have noticed that there are many gyms around us. On on hand, everyone has higher requirement for keeping fit, and on the other hand, it is also a testament to the high pressure on people. The purpose of many friends I know who go to gym is to reduce stress. Running more on the tradmill and grabbing more fitness equipment will cause the brain to release dopamine, which promote the develpment of our happy emotions, and help us release inner pressure. I am one of those people, and going to the gym helps me become less anxious.

Hobbies:
Engaging in hobbies or activities one enjoys can help distract from stressful situations and provide a sense of satisfaction. 参与自己喜欢的爱好或活动可以帮助分散压力情况,并提供满足感。

Professional help:
If stress becomes overwhelming, seeking professional help like counseling or therapy can be beneficial. They can provide strategies and techniques to better manage stress. 专业帮助:如果压力变得无法承受,寻求专业帮助,如咨询或治疗,可能会有益处。他们可以提供更好地管理压力的策略和技巧

Professor, I firmly believe that stress is not necessarily a negative thing. It’s how we perceive and react to it that matters. Personally, I deal with stress by practicing mindfulness and meditation. These techniques help me to stay present and not get overwhelmed by future uncertainties or past regrets. It also helps to reduce the physical symptoms of stress like headaches and fatigue. Additionally, it improves my sleep quality. Why meditation? It’s because it has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and improve mental health. It helps to calm the mind and body, thereby reducing the production of stress hormones. Plus, it’s something I can do anywhere, anytime - whether I’m at home, on campus, or even on the bus. Furthermore, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating balanced meals, getting regular exercise, and ensuring I get enough sleep. These habits help to boost my overall mood and energy levels, making me better equipped to handle stress. In conclusion, dealing with stress requires a proactive approach - it’s about taking control of your life and not letting stress control you.180 words

Dr.Diaz:
In the next two weeks, we are going to be studying how biological discoveries have affeted our lives. Research in bilogy provides us with a better understanding of how our bodies work. As an introduction to this topic, I would like fro you to discuss among yourselves this question: What is the most important thing a person can do to maintain good health? Please explain why you think so.

Kelly:
I feel very strongly that a good diet is the most important factor in maintaining good health. Eating good, healthy food, especially green vegetables, gives your body the materials it needs to stay strong. Good nutrition is the key to good health.
Paul:
Most people don't visit the doctor for regular checkups. Sure if they feel sick, they go, but that's not enough. During a yearly exam, a physician can help a patient address health issues before they become a larger problem. So I think preventive docot visits are key to good health.

Dr. Diaz:
This week,we will be discussing retail sales. One popular model of retail is"superstores"-very large stores, typically owned by corporations-that sell many kinds of different products. We will compare this business model to local retailers, typically small or specialized stores with local owners, such as a camera shop or a small neighborhood grocery store. Do you think it is more beneficial for people to shop at small local stores rather than at superstores? Why or why not?

Claire:
Shopping at small local stores benefits consumers in many ways. One of the benefits is that small stores often offer better services than large stores. For example, if you need your bicycle repaired, usually the small shop can do it right there in the shop. At the large stores, they have to send it to the manufacturer to be repaired.

Andrew:
Although I understand the importance of shopping at small stores to support the local community, there are obvious benefits to shopping at superstores. Because large retailers produce products in bulk, they can offer their customers a wide variety of products, usually at low prices. So, by shopping at large stores, consumers get better value for their money.

Dr. Gupta:
With so many opportunities to connect nowadays, some people believe that no matter which country we come from, we have more similarities than we have differences. However, others have observed that differences between themselves and people from other countries are growing. In your view, are differences between people from different countries increasing,or are they diminishing? Why?

Kelly:
I think the differences among us are decreasing as our exposure to products from other countries grows. We can enjoy food from any country. We can watch movies made in faraway places. We can go to a store and buy authentic goods from around the world. These things become part of our normal life and make our differences seem smaller.

Andrew:
I understand what Kelly is saying but for some people, being exposed to differences make them retreat into their own corner even more. Look at social media. We are exposed to many different people and ideas, but a lot of people talk to only those they agree with and ignore the rest. This only makes the differences between people increase.

Dr. Diaz:
Next week,we are going to talk about ways to evaluate online sources of information. As you know, while there is a lot of information available on the Internet, it is not all equally reliable. Not all the information you find on websites is accurate, and some of it is even intentionally misleading. When looking for information online, what do you think is the best way to determine whether the information is accurate and truthful?

Andrew:
If I need to be sure information is accurate, I consult scholarly, peer-reviewed sources, like academic journals. If other experts have reviewed the information and approved it, then I know it is likely to be reliable. If I have any doubts, I can always ask my professors.

Claire:
While I agree with Andrew to an extent, not all the information you need is available in academic journals. If I need more general information online, I consider the source.Who posts the information to the site? Do they have anything to gain from presenting inaccurate information-for example, are they selling a product related to the topic?Asking these kinds of questions is important.

  • 预测题1(附答题思路)

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Being polite is more important than being truthful.

Use specific examples and details to explain your answer.

答题思路

Being truthful is more important.

1. Honesty is the foundation of trust in any relationship. For instance, if a friend asks for my opinion about their new business idea, I think it's crucial to give them my honest feedback. Even if it might be a little hard to hear, it could help them avoid potential pitfalls and make necessary improvement.

2. Being trustful doesn't mean that one should be rude or disrespectful. It's essential to communicate the truth with tact and respect, thereby maintaining a balance between honesty and politeness.

Some college students take classes during the summer. Others take the summer off from school so that they can rest or work at a job. Which do you think is better for students? Explain why.

答题思路

1. rest and recharge-better return to study in the new semester

2. working-beneficial-offer experience and all kinds of skills

范文参考

I believe it’s better for students to take the summer off from school. This break provides them with a chance to rest and recharge after a rigorous academic year. Having this time to relax can help them return to their studies in the fall with renewed energy and focus. Additionally, working at a job during the summer can offer valuable real-world experience and the opportunity to make money. It can also help students develop important skills like time management, communication, and responsibility, which will be beneficial in their future careers.
